Welcome to the A2Z Picks blog. We’re here to provide data-driven analysis and expert picks, but the most important pick you’ll ever make has nothing to do with a team. It’s deciding how to manage your money.
The biggest difference between a casual fan and a serious, long-term profitable bettor isn’t a “magic” win rate—it’s discipline. And discipline starts with your bankroll.
A “bankroll” is simply the total amount of money you have set aside only for betting. This is money you can afford to lose. If you don’t have a bankroll, you don’t have a strategy; you’re just gambling.
Here are the 3 simple rules our 17+ years of experience have proven to be non-negotiable for long-term success.
Rule 1: Use a “Unit” System (And Stick to It)
Never bet random amounts. The fastest way to go broke is to “chase” your losses by doubling your bet size.
A unit-based system is what professionals use. It’s simple:
- Define Your Unit: Your “unit” should be 1% to 3% of your total bankroll.
- Example: If your total bankroll is $1,000, one unit (1%) is $10.
- Bet in Units: A standard play is 1 unit ($10). A high-confidence play might be 2 or 3 units ($20-$30).
This system protects you from the emotional highs and lows. It keeps your bets consistent and prevents one bad day from wiping you out.
Rule 2: Never Chase Your Losses
This is the golden rule. You will have losing days. We have losing days. Every professional on earth has losing days. It is a mathematical certainty.
“Chasing” is when you lose a bet and immediately try to win it back by betting on the next game, often for a larger amount. This is an emotional decision, not a data-driven one, and it’s a guaranteed path to an empty account.
Trust the process. Trust the data. If you have a bad day, shut the app. A new set of plays will be there tomorrow.

Rule 3: Re-evaluate, But Not Too Often
As your bankroll grows (or shrinks), you’ll need to adjust your unit size.
- Don’t re-evaluate every day. This will make you too aggressive or too timid.
- Do re-evaluate on a set schedule, like at the start of every new month or once your bankroll has changed by 25%.
Example: You started with a $1,000 bankroll and a $10 unit. After a great month, your bankroll is now $1,250. You can now re-calculate your 1% unit to be $12.50. This “compounds” your winnings in a safe, controlled way.
At A2Z Picks, we aren’t just selling picks; we’re building a community of smarter, more profitable bettors. Following these rules is the first and most important step.
